NEW YORK - The nuclear crisis is not yet over in Tokyo, as radiation is still being emitted from Tokyo Electric's crippled nuclear plant in Fukushima. The plant was crippled following the earthquake and tsunami on March 11.
The government has warned that it could take months to stop the radiation at the plant, as protesters begin to show their strength in numbers banding against the use of nuclear energy. Some protesters shouted "Tokyo Electric, get out of nuclear energy. "
Engineers have been working to seal the crack at the reactor no.2, where radioactive water has leaked into the sea. The crack had caused high levels of radiation inside the plant.
However Prime Minister Naoto Kan says the situation has "somewhat stabilized."
Tokyo Electric's stock, known as Tepco has seen its stock act with great volatility since the onset of the crisis but today it movement has been somewhat sedated. The volume for the stock is 2800% times normal volume since the crisis began, as investors have furiously traded shares. The volume has dropped today perhaps indicating greater stability in the stock price and poetically indicating greater stability in Japan.
