$3 billion to go to be number 3. (NYSE: MSFT) (NYSE: IBM) (NASDAQ: AAPL)

NEW YORK - Microsoft Corporation is on the verge of dropping to the number 3 spot among tech giants in terms of market capitalization. Apple is currently number 1 at $306 billion, Microsoft is number 2 at $212 billion and IBM is number 3 at $209 billion. A 35 cents drop in Microsoft's share price or a $2.5 rise in IBM's price: will all other things being equal switch the two companies.

IBM is a company which has lasted on Wall Street for a long time as the company has been able to continually reinvent themselves. Apple has surged over the last year to become the dominant tech player as their devices have become more popular than water. Microsoft which had a $600 billion market capitalization in 2000 has seen its shares decline. Investors are worrying if Microsoft will become passe like so many other tech stocks. Will the titan be able to resurrect its stock price?
