SkyWorks High-Flying Earnings Season (NASDAQ: SWKS) (NASDAQ: TQNT)

Skyworks Solutions (NASDAQ: SWKS) returns this quarter and is preparing to report results after the closing bell today. The average analyst estimate is $0.46 per share. Should Skyworks meet these expectations, it will be a record quarter for the company. The business that Skyworks is in, is an integral part of the smartphone and tablet revolution. Although the word revolution has been masked by poor performance in the tech sector over the past, it still indeed is a revolution. While Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) has been smashing competitors left and right, the smart phone market is still growing rapidly along with the up and coming tablet market. Apple alone sold over 20 million iPhones in the quarter reported earlier this week. Their 9 million iPads that were sold are helping to drive the company's growth.

On the positive side for Skyworks, they do supply semiconductor chips to Apple, and should therefore see at least a small boost in growth from supplying Apple with iPhone and iPad parts. Skyworks does compete with Triquint (NASDAQ: TQNT) which has been growing rapidly as well. These companies are quite small relative to Apple however, and the smart phone market is getting increasingly larger. This may leave quite a bit of room for both competitors to play in this market.

While Skyworks is down drastically from its $38 highs, the stock still resides at $23 per share, up 6 fold from its recession lows. However, investors look to the future - where a stock is going, not where it came from. This solid company could deliver an inline quarter and make its current share price look like a pittance to where the stock price is headed.

  1. SWKS delivers an terrific earnings beat!

Just the other day Cramer was saying the best way to play Apple is Apple. I think he's right, but he missed out on recommending SWKS. Skyworks has evolved beyond just being an Apple supplier, especially if the rumors of Skyworks losing market share in the iPhone 5 are true.
