Obama Keeps Oil Prices High By Killing Keystone, XOM, TOT, COP

The President of the United States once again stopped the Keystone Pipeline in its tracks, killing one of America's best aids for energy independence and lower prices at the pump. The pipeline was aiming to transport oil from Canada down into the United States. This would create tens of thousands of jobs, greatly helping the economy and to restore prosperity to American homes. Fuel prices at the pump have been acting as a tax to American's. Prices continue to rise as OPEC has control over world prices and stand to make higher profits the more turmoil there is. Energy independence will reduce prices at the pump.

Furthermore, since the president is totally against the job creation and lower fuel prices for the US, China is stepping in and will be buying Canada's oil resources. Therefore from an environmental perspective, the oil is still being used one way or another. It would make much more sense to transport it closer distances by efficient methods such as pipelines, as opposed to shipping tanker and trucks. The latter is a clear disadvantage to the environment, which should stop all environmentalists in their tracks and have them rethink the pipeline once more.

In the meantime, companies such as Exxon (XOM), French oil giant Total (TOT), and ConocoPhillips (COP) stand to benefit from the excruciatingly high oil prices which is where money should be invested to hedge against America's oil dependence. Additionally, the president is at a stand still to endorse natural gas, which is simply being burned off since the US has so much of the fuel. If the president started getting his act together and actually promoted the cheap, abundant fuel, the US would not be shipping it to other countries in the world, while continuing to import oil. It is clear that this unnecessary shipment of fuel into and out of the US is hindering the economy. It is a clear no-brainer to begin fueling natural gas vehicles, yet the president still does not see it.

  2. The Wyden Amendment makes sense. If we would be taking the risk of an oil spill on our homeland from the Keystone XL Pipeline, then all the oil it transports should stay here. And the pipeline should be built and be maintained by American workers — with American made materials.
Otherwise, we would be relegating our land to be a 30 year stepping stone for Canada to transport its dirty oil to foreign markets.
Moreover, the Wyden Amendment should be used as a model for all offshore and public land drilling. If our country incurs the long term risk of a spill, then it should also get the maximum benefit.
The “free market” will have to take a back seat on this one.
Our environment ain’t free — even to the free market.

  3. Sorry, the environmentalists are wrong on this one. It's too late, China is already buying the Canadian oil which will be shipped by trucks and boats - way more damaging than a pipeline which is the more efficient mode of transportation we have. Furthermore, a pipeline spill on land is nowhere near as devastating as one in the water.
It's too late though, China has its hands in the dirty oil and they couldn't care less about the environment. The US should be a proponent of the Keystone pipeline to put Americans (and yes, canadians on the canada border) to work, greatly helping the economy. As now that china wants the oil, it's guaranteed that the environment will be harmed much more than a thin pipeline across the land.

  4. LOL if America actually cared about the environment, they would switch from oil cars to natural gas in a heartbeat. haha clearly the environment is not of upmost priority and neither is the economy because pipelines create tens of thousands of jobs.
