Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL)’s New OS sees Over Three mln Downloads in 4 Days


Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) new operating system seems to have caught the fancy of Mac users with more than 3 million downloads in four days, the company said in statement. 

The newest operating system from Apple, Mac OS X Mountain Lion, was launched just about a year back and with the recent downloads has become its most successful operating system.

"Just a year after the incredibly successful introduction of Lion, customers have downloaded Mountain Lion over three million times in just four days, making it our most successful release ever," Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said in a statement. 

The OS in now running on about 3.2 percent of all Macs though an older version Snow Leopard still led with about 45 percent of Macs running it, according to data from mobile advertising firm Chitika.

Mountain Lion retails at $19.99 in Mac stores while those who are running 10.6.6 can upgrade to it online. The company is offering free upgrades to customers who have bought Macs on or after June 11. 

The revamped operating system had several new features such as iCloud integration that makes it easier to sync between macs and iOS devices, in effect allowing all the devices of Apple to talk to each other.
