Microsoft
Corporation(NASDAQ:MSFT) will release its new Windows tablet, Surface, on Oct.
26, the company said in a filing to the securities Exchange Commission.
The
world's largest software firm had announced the launch of the tablet in June
but had omitted to mention the release date and the price.

The
company has ended the suspense over the product's availability on the shelves
but has still not said anything about the price.
“The
next version of our operating system, Windows 8, will be generally available on
October 26, 2012,” Microsoft said in the filing. “At that time, we will begin
selling the Surface, a series of Microsoft-designed and manufactured hardware
devices.”
The
timing of the release is very crucial and comes just ahead beginning of the
holiday season when sales are expected to be strong.
With
regard to the pricing Microsoft has indicated that it will be priced
competitively with tablets running on ARM-based chips, that retail at around
$500 each. The release of the ARM-based tablets will be followed by the pro
version of Surface that will run on Intel chips.
