Adjusted earnings from continuing operations were $449 million or $0.54 per
share. On an IFRS basis, revenues decreased 4% to $3.31 billion from $3.45
billion, while non-IFRS revenues from ongoing businesses increased to $3.19
billion, as compared to $3.16 billion in the prior-year period. Analysts
estimated revenues of $3.21 billion for the quarter.

TRW Automotive Holdings Corp. (NYSE:TRW) shares
climbed 5.30% to $38.35 after the company posted second quarter profit of $220
million, or $1.71 a share, as against $293 million, or $2.21 a share, in the
same period a year earlier. Adjusted per-share earnings in the latest quarter
were $1.72. as compared with $1.99 in the comparable quarter last year.
Analysts were looking for $1.55 a share. Sales increased to $4.24 billion from
$4.23 million last year and in line with the company's May projection of
approximately $4.2 billion.

Tyco International Ltd. (NYSE:TYC) stock gained
2.38% to $55.06 after the company posted third quarter net income of $242
million or $0.51 per share, as against $359 million or $0.76 per share reported
last year. Earnings per share from continuing operations in the recent quarter
were $0.54 per share. Adjusted earnings from continuing operations were $1.01
per share, up from $0.85 per share in the prior year. Net revenues for the
quarter grew 4 percent to $4.46 billion for the quarter. Analysts expected the company to earn $0.93
per share on revenues of $4.54 billion.
UBS AG (USA) (NYSE:UBS) shares fell 4.70% to $10.54
after the company sees mixed second quarter in wealth and asset management.
However, a cut of 666 staff at the company’s wealth division was not enough to
prevent pre-tax profits at its European and Asian private-banking operations
falling 25% as compared to the second period last year.
Valero Energy Corporation (NYSE:VLO) shares
increased 5.71% to $27.57 after the company reported a second-quarter profit of
$831 million or $1.50 per share, as compared with $745 million, or $1.30 per
share, a year earlier. Analysts on average had expected a profit of $1.43 per
share.
Additionally, the company disclosed its plan to
potentially cut off its retail business from the rest of the company. The company
recently expanded the coker at the Port Arthur plant to 95,000 bpd from 85,000
bpd. It also expanded its crude and vacuum units, helping the plant to process
heavy sour crude.
