Auction eBay Inc(NASDAQ:EBAY) is getting a new
identity and to mark that it has introduced a new logo.
The vibrant colours of the original logo are still
there but the font has become a bit thinner in a uniform, narrow kerning.
The company is celebrating 17 years of its existence
and the revamping of its logo is long overdue. Most other tech companies
including Microsoft have already been through their own logo transformations.
“Our refreshed logo is rooted in our proud history and
reflects a dynamic future,” eBay writes on its announcement page. “Our vibrant
eBay colours and touching letters represent our connected and diverse eBay
community – more than 100 million active users and 25 million sellers globally
and growing. The eBay logo is known the world over, so changing it was not a
decision made lightly. The time felt right.”
The revamped logo while maintaining the original
quirkiness looks more corporate and befitting a mature company that has
completed nearly two decades in the business. Analysts are expecting a change
in the interface design as well in the near future.
Users and customers may also expect anew auctioning
experience as its President Devin Wenig is calling it "the new eBay."
The company may be looking at more partnerships and
collaborations with local drugstores in the U.S. There may also be easier
options to purchase items with something similar to Amazon's locker pick-up
facility.
The re-branding exercise is expected to be launched
sometime in the middle of October.
