Samsung has apparently decided to
drop all pretence of class as it blatantly targets Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iPhone
5 in its all-new Galaxy S3 print advertisement.
All newspapers in the USA are
going to have this piece of news by tomorrow. Samsung aims at making iPhone 5
look low-end compared to the Galaxy S3 through its print ad.
The new advertisement comes with
the claim that ‘the next big thing is already here’. It seems Samsung is not
yet over its failure in high stakes legal battle with Apple over infringement
issues back in August. Publishing an advert directly targeting products of
Apple with its own – the move is bold, particularly after losing the court case
to Apple.
The print ad says ‘It doesn’t
take a genius’. This apparently refers to in-store Apple experts and the online
referral system for the App Store and iTunes. It also emphasizes on the fact
that consumers are likely to go for Galaxy S3 as it comes with a large number
of features, when compared to the iPhone 5. The list of features displayed,
however, seems biased as some of the integral features of the iPhone 5 have
been omitted, including iCloud, iTunes integration and FaceTime. Also, iOS is
brand new whereas Android 4.0 is almost a year old now.
This move by Samsung is not being
seen as a mature way to market a product. There is no denying the fact that
Samsung Galaxy S3 is an incredible device. However, the marketing punch-line
could have focussed on its own stellar features rather than comparing with
Apple’s iPhone 5. there is a rumour that Samsung is working on a video ad
featuring people lined up, waiting for the launch of new iPhone while ogling at
Samsung’s latest Galaxy smartphone.
Apple’s fans have already started
working on the parodies of the ad and some of them are already making rounds on
the internet.
