Canaccord Genuity analyst Michael
Walkley has predicted that 101.6 million iPads will be sold in the coming year
with Apple dominating 58.4% of the tablet market. The target does not look to
be too difficult because the overall iPad sales figures has surpassed 100
million earlier this month since the 1st model was launched in 2010.
Rivals Amazon and Samsung will
sell 10.7 million and 8.4 million tablets respectively in 2013. iPhone sales
are likely to hit 193.9 million units and along with 303.6 million projected
handset sales from Samsung, the tech giants and arch rivals will dominate more
than half of the smartphone industry. Huawei takes the 3rd place in
2013 with 47.9 million units likely to be sold.
Walkley’s calculations show that
Apple and Samsung are responsible for 106% of the gains of the handset industry
in the 3rd quarter of this year with Nokia, Motorola, and Research
in Motion reporting dismal figures in the same quarter.
