The 13-inch MacBook Pro that Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL) is
expected to unveil on October 23 is likely to be priced at around $1,699, a report
by 9to5 Mac said.
This is the same day on which Apple is also widely
expected to launch the iPad Mini.
"We have now received pricing information on the
base model and the “best” model. We believe the entry model 13-inch Retina
MacBook Pro will cost roughly $1,699 at launch, based on wholesale prices we
received, while the higher spec model will cost $200 to $300 more," the
report said.
Apple has now adopted the strategy of introducing
smaller version of its devices to cater to a segment that is more price
conscious as well as presents a much bigger opportunity for the company.
The existing base model of the Retina MacBook Pro is
now priced at $2,199 in the U.S., s a 13-inch version would retail for a much
lower price.
"We expect these to be available shortly after
launch, but we can probably expect some supply constraints as we saw with the
15-inch Retina MacBook Pro," 9to5 Mac said.
It looks like most of the devices being launched by
Apple in recent months will be subject to supply constraints due to problems
with its component suppliers.
The 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro will have a display of
2,560 by 1600 pixels, the report said, the effective area being the same as the
current models when used in pixel-doubled Retina mode.
Apple is also expected to announce new versions of its
Mac mini computer and the iMac desktop.
