CA, Inc.(NASDAQ:CA) shares dropped 3.65% to $23.99
in after hour trading after the company posted second quarter profit of $222
million, from $236 million in the same quarter a year earlier. On a per- share
basis, earnings rose to $0.48 a share from $0.47 a share. Adjusted earnings
from continuing operations rose to $0.59 a share from 51 cents. Revenue fell 4%
to $1.15 billion. Analysts had projected a per-share profit of 59 cents on
revenue of $1.17 billion.
The Chubb Corporation(NYSE:CB) stock gained 0.92% to
$80.12 in after hour trading after the company’s third-quarter profit beat
analysts expectations as catastrophe losses fell sharply and insurance rates
increased across its businesses. The company said it lost $17 million on
natural disasters in the latest third quarter, down from $420 million a year
earlier. Net profit was $533 million or $1.98 per share, as compared with $298
million, or $1,04 per share, in the same quarter a year earlier. Analysts on
average expected earnings of $1.49 per share.
Cerner Corporation(NASDAQ:CERN) stock climbed 11.16%
to $76.11 in after hour trading after the company announced results for the
2012 third quarter that ended September 29, 2012, delivering strong levels of
bookings, revenue, earnings and cash flow. Bookings in the third quarter of
2012 were $769.9 million, an all-time high for a third quarter and an increase
of 18% compared to third quarter 2011 bookings of $650.3 million.Third quarter
revenue was a record $676.5 million, an increase of 18%, as compared to $571.6
million in the year-ago period. On a U.S. GAAP basis, third quarter 2012 net
earnings were $98.9 million and diluted earnings per share were $0.56. Third
quarter 2011 GAAP net earnings were $78.8 million and diluted earnings per
share were $0.45.
Additionally, Jefferies upgraded Cerner’s shares
from Hold to Buy with a price target of $82.00 (from $80.00).
Cincinnati Financial Corporation (NASDAQ:CINF)
reported third-quarter 2012 net income of $111 million, or $0.68 per share,
compared to $19 million or $0.12 per share in the same quarter a year earlier.
Operating income for the quarter rose to $105 million, or $0.64 per share from
$20 million or $0.13 per share in the comparable quarter last year. Total
revenues rose 10% to $1.04 billion from $944 million in the prior year quarter.
Analysts expected the company to report earnings of $0.40 per share on revenues
of $1.02 billion for the quarter.
Cloud Peak Energy Inc.(NYSE:CLD) shares climbed
2.16% to $19.40 in the after hour trading after the company reported
third-quarter net income of $85.3 million or $1.39 per share, as compared to
$24.6 million or $0.41 per share in the comparable quarter last year. Adjusted
earnings per share for the quarter rose to $0.80 from $0.61 in the year-ago
quarter. Revenues for the quarter rose to $425.86 million from $406.95 million
a year ago. Analysts expected the company to earn $0.49 per share on revenue of
$396.08 million for the quarter.
