Microsoft Corporation(NASDAQ:MSFT) Launches Windows Phone 8 to Compete with Android & iOS


Finally, Microsoft Corporation(NASDAQ:MSFT) has introduced the highly-awaited Windows Phone 8 operating system to compete with Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android. The Internet Explorer 10 will be available in the new OS to enable better browsing experience and also integration with video chat app Skype.

Windows 8 for PC’s, tablets, and smartphones are based on identical user interface and technology core. The Start screen is represented in the form of square tiles called Live Tiles, which show real-time information like notifications from Facebook or Twitter. Users can personalize the Start screen by putting their favorite items like photos and apps and choose from three sizes and 20 colors for square tiles.

The introduction of the new OS will encourage developers to make apps for both platforms including OS for PCs and for smartphones and allow users to run similar programs irrespective of the device. Hardware support has been enhanced by meeting specifications like multi-core processors and near-field communication (NFC).

Live Apps, Top apps, Kid's Corner, data sense, wallet communications etc. are other features available on Windows Phone 8. Nokia, Samsung and HTC have unveiled their Windows 8-powered smartphones and will be available through mobile carriers in the US such as AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. The OS will be introduced in UK on 2nd November.
