Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) Lumia 920 disappears from Best Buy

There's something mysterious afoot. Nokia Corporation (ADR)(NYSE:NOK) Lumia 920 has disappeared from the pre-order list on Best Buy.

The site was accepting advance orders for the smartphone on Sunday but according to reports, it has now disappeared from the site.

No reason was ascribed for the removal of the Lumia 920 from the site.

WP Central first spotted the pre-orders on Best Buy's site. The new phones, launched last month, were available for pre-order from Best Buy for $149.99 with a two-year contract with AT&T. This was very competitive pricing for a smartphone, which usually sell for $200 with such contracts.

There's still no date affixed for launching the phone and only the pre-orders were being taken. The date of availability of the phone was also unknown.

According to Business Insider there could be two reasons why the phone has vanished from the site.

"Nokia and AT&T have yet to formally announce the pricing and a release date for the Lumia 920. It's possible Best Buy jumped the gun or Best Buy could have sold out."

Incidentally HTC 8X which also runs on Windows Phone 8 is still available for pre-order.

The speculation is whether the availability for pre-order of the Lumia 920 was a glitch or its subsequent removal was a glitch.

WP Central, which had first reported the story, confessed it had no idea about the incident and "hopefully tomorrow either we’ll wake to find it fixed or we’ll ask Nokia if they know what’s going on with the whole deal."

The site said that it had spoken to people who had pre-ordered the phone on the site before it disappeared, and they had been given a shipping date of October 23 or 24.

"While we don’t have any knowledge if that is accurate, we’re leaning on this being an error from Best Buy. We’re not expecting that phone to ship until November 4th—but hey, we like surprises just like anyone else."
