Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) expands SDK legal agreement to target Android Fragmentation

With the intention of prohibiting android fragmentation, Google Inc(NASDAQ:GOOG) has expanded its legal agreement with developers working on Android application.

This prohibition was added to the existing terms & conditions for Google's Android SDK (software development kit) which was earlier published in April 2009.The developers needs to accept the new prohibition, before using the software to build Android application. The new terms says "You agree that you will not take any actions that may cause or result in the fragmentation of Android, including but not limited to distributing, participating in the creation of, or promoting in any way a software development kit derived from the SDK."

The Android fragmentation concern is mainly raised due to action taken by Google and Android handset makers. Various Smartphone and tablets does not have proper android application on its device. Avi Greengart, research director at consumer device points out this issue on the launch of android version 4.2 also known as Jelly Bean. For example HTC's Droid DNA does not have a updated & great operating system despite having catchy specifications.

Google has failed to address this issue which in contrast Apple has successfully worked on the same. Apple is consistently providing updates along with support & new features to user at least for a year from purchase date.
