Google
and Amazon, two of Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) most formidable rivals, might
face fierce competition from the latter yet again, due to speculation, that a
mini iPad (a 7 inch tablet) is being developed. If successfully launched, it
will provide serious threats to tablets like Kindle Fire and Nexus 7. Steve
Jobs was in favor of the mini iPad and so is marketing head Phil Schiller, who
had expressed his ideas many times. Schiller feels that a 7 inch tablet will
take technology to a different level.

Apple
and Samsung are presently embroiled in a patent lawsuit that might make or
break either one. Apple has alleged that Samsung copied the formers’ designs
and features of products like iPad and iPhone, and used them in their products.
They are demanding an enormous sum to be paid in damages and of course put a
ban on sales. Samsung has retaliated by stating that Apple used unfair means
for its key wireless technology patents.
Steve
Job’s support towards the 7 inch tablet is a tad surprising, since he had
openly voiced his dislike, especially at a conference in 2010, where he clearly
said that users would need to file down their fingers in order to operate a
smaller tablet. But tablets like Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire are cheaper and thus Apple’s
market share has been somewhat affected due to consumers unwilling to spend
$500 or more for iPads.

The
Apple-Samsung trial began this week, where people got an inside look at the
strategies and tools used by Apple to market and launch its products. A billion
has been spent in promoting iPhone and iPad! Samsung counteracted by claiming
that they too had shelled out a billion in 2011 to market their products in the
US. With both sides presenting witnesses and providing mountains of
information, it remains to be seen which side will come out victorious in this
Silicon Valley struggle.
