Another Kick at The Can (NYSE: AA)

Alcoa will have another kick at the proverbial can, when it reports after the closing bell today. Alcoa the largest aluminum producer in the U.S. is the first major company to report on Wall Street and often has an affect on stock movement. This is because Alcoa is seen as a bell weather for U.S. manufacturing.

Expectations have been raised for Alcoa because of continuing improvements in the U.S. economy. On Friday it was announced that unemployment rate dropped to 9.4 per cent from 9.8 per cent. Investors are also raising their expectations as the company's stock is up nearly 40% since it announced its quarter 3 results in October.

The high estimate for the quarter is 30 cents a share or $300 million, the mean estimate is 19 cents a share with a low estimate of 16 cents.
