Peabody Energy Falls After Earnings (AME, APD, BIIB, BTU, CNC)


AMETEK Inc (NYSE:AME) decreased 6.03% to $31.31after the Company reported second quarter results. Sales increased 9.0% to $825.9 million.  Operating income for the second quarter of 2012 was $185.0 million compared to $157.0 million in the same period of 2011. Net income was $113.7 million or $0.47 per diluted share compared to $94.1 million or $0.39 per diluted share in the prior year period.

Peabody Energy Corporation (NYSE:BTU) decreased 8.03% to $21.25 after the Company announced second quarter results. Net income was $215.3 million or 78 cents per share compared to $307.8 million or $1.10 per share previous year period.  Revenue increased 1% to $1.99 billion. Wall Street analysts expected a much smaller profit of 53 cents per share on revenue of $2.06 billion. The Company expects third quarter earnings to be in the range 20 to 45 cents per share.

Centene Corp (NYSE:CNC) climbed up 8.08% to $37.44. The Company reported second quarter loss of $35 million or 68 cents per share compared to profit of $28.4 million or 54 cents in the prior year period. Revenue increased 61% to $2.11 billion. However, analysts forecast a loss of 11 cents a share on revenue of $1.99 billion. Medical costs increased 78%. The Company added 817,000 members during the quarter.
