Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL)’s version of
Maps has come under severe criticism, in spite of glowing reviews about the
iPhone 5. Previously, Apple had replaced Google Inc(NASDAQ:GOOG) maps with its
own mapping tool. Google chairman Eric Schmidt states that if Apple were
to incorporate Google Maps into their phones once again, then the former will
require an official approval from Apple before they can proceed.
There was a lot of hype about Apple’s mapping tool that was
unveiled with the iPhone 5, but it was booed by many because of its inability
to provide directions for public transportation and getting confused while
navigating users. Google Maps were included in iPhones ever since its debut in
2007, but Apple chose to take on Google in a bigger way by building this app
and promoting it in every possible way.

Apparently, the mapping tool was
developed in order to decrease Apple’s dependency on Google. In fact, Google’s
YouTube app, which used to be installed in iPhones, is missing from the new
model. The Apple-Google feud began after Google came up with the Android
mobile operating system, which is used by Samsung and HTC that are in turn
competitors for iPhone. Plus, Android has surged past other smartphone
softwares to become the most popular worldwide.
Apple has also been involved with numerous patent
infringement lawsuits with Samsung and other smartphone manufacturers whose
phones use the Android software. But Google being Google is not cowering at
all. They have introduced the Nexus 7 tablet for sale in Japan . Google is now venturing into
the tablet market, which will be valued at $78.7 billion by the year end.
Shares of AAPL tumbled another 2.54%
to $673.25 on Tuesday.
