Google developing map app for Apple
devices
There is good news for people who want Google
Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Maps on their iPhones and iPads: a new Google app is on its
way. There has been a lot of speculation
about Google working on a map app for Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL), ever since the launch
of iOS 6 which has an Apple maps app. According to a few sources who have
refused to be named, Google’s new app should be ready in a couple of months.
The reason for the time lag is that
Google didn't have an inkling that the Cupertino company would develop its own
app. Apple's map service has however, not
satisfied users because of errors like inaccurate addresses and wrong
landmarks. These users want the Google Maps app back although the iPhone and
iPad maker says that the app it has created will get better with time.
Beyond saying that it wants its maps to be available on any device, Google has not said much on the issue. The new app development is fraught with complications like the tricky relationship between the two companies and also Google's attempt to create a 3D app combining features of Google Maps and Google Earth.
No security breach, says Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)
Meanwhile, Facebook has denied
claims by several users that their private messages on the social networking
site sent between 2007 and 2009 can be seen by their family and friends after
the mandatory rollout of the Timeline layout. The social networking company has
said that the messages had always been on users’ profile pages and that there
had been no breach of user privacypolicy. The company said that users have probably
forgotten how they had posted these messages. However, the company has not
verified how the previously hidden messages are now on display.
