Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s Rumor About Private Message Is Fake

According to a rumor, private messages of Facebook Inc(NASDAQ:FB) users were coming up on public timelines. The company has rubbished such rumors though.

Some users, particularly in France have reported that private messages that were exchanged sometime between 2007 and 2008 appeared on public timelines all of a sudden.

Facebook has told BBC that the messages in question were older wall posts that always had been visible on the profile pages of those users.

Separately, Facebook shares went down to 11% after an influential journal stated that the stock is worth of a mere $15.

On the messaging rumor, the social networking company said that Facebook is satisfied with the outcomes of the investigation that the site engineers have run. There has been no breach in user privacy as per the investigation reports.

Another sources reveals that the company has told BBC that engineers have said there is absolutely no way the two spaces of information can get mixed up.

The source also said that there is no mechanism ever created that would let a private message to ever show up on the wall or timeline of a user.

Similar rumors came to surface and were looked into in 2011 but after meticulous investigation they all were proven wrong.

In spite of the statement made by Facebook, several users have reported that they have found private messages on their walls.

Owner of a fashion social network, Poppy Dinsey said that there are messages on her wall that are clearly private messages from 2006 till 2012.

The French government has summoned Facebook managers to appear before country’s data supervisory body to explain how some of its users came to believe their privacy had been violated on the social network. Two ministers said that they had intervened after going through the reports stating that private messages were leaked.
