There is a possibility that Google Inc(NASDAQ:GOOG)
might phase out the 16 GB version of its Nexus 7 and replace it with the 32 GB
model, Phandroid reported on Tuesday.
The site put up a screenshot of the 16GB Nexus and
declared it `end of life' but added that the 32 GB model will be sold at the
same price that is, $249 a unit.
At present the Nexus 7 is only available in the Wi-Fi
version, but there are reports that the company will soon release a 3G-equipped
tablet.
A 32 GB Nexus 7 at the same price as the one with
lower storage capacity will make it even more attractive while giving it an
added 3G capability will allow it to be sold in more countries, especially in
emerging economies in Asia where Wi-Fi networks are not very prevalent.
Google is gearing up for competition from Apple at all
levels. There are reports that it is teaming up with Samsung to develop a
higher-end tablet that will compete directly with Apple's existing iPads.
Apple is now, according to rumours, bringing in an
iPad Mini that at 7.85 inches display compete with Goggle's Nexus 7 and
Amazon's Kindle Fire tablets.
The competition is hotting up in the tablet space as
more consumers are moving towards mobile devices for their daily computing needs.
This has resulted in a drop in sale of traditional personal computers - both
laptops and desktops.
