Thailand’s online Apple
Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL) store has reportedly started taking pre-orders for the iPad
mini with shipping dates quoted at two weeks, even though it is not enlisted in
the 34 countries taking part in the launch of the new Apple tablet.
Several readers of
AppleInsider have reported that iPad mini preorders have gone live in Thailand.
A quick check with the Online Apple Store in Thailand has confirmed that the
device is up for sale.
The shipping estimates
indicate that Apple is preparing for the launch of the 7.9 inch tablet in more
countries within the next two weeks, although everything is being speculated.
It must be taken note
of that Thailand pre-orders are kept under pending status, most probably in reference
to the National Telecommunications Commission.
The Wi-Fi + Cellular
version is not available for presale even though the Wi-Fi only models are. Apple
only mentions that the unit is not available instead of estimated ship
duration.
Apple’s iPad mini was
released at a special event held at the end of October. It comes with a 7.9
inch display, A5 processor and stereo speakers. It measures 7.2 mm thin and
weighs about 0.68 pounds. The tablet also flaunts a thin bezel. It features the
same resolution as the iPad 2.
iPad mini supports
dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity and channel bonding that can reach download speed
up to 150 mbps. The tablet comes with the Siri functionality that can be
accessed through cellular data as well as Wi-Fi connectivity. Additionally, the
device has its own Smart Cover that does not come with a separate aluminum
hinge.
FaceTime HD Camera, LTE
connectivity and a new Lightning Connector are some of the highlights of the
iPad mini. It operates on the thinnest battery that the company has ever made.
It is supposed to provide up to 10 hours of battery life.
