There has been a lot of hype over Apple
Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iPhone 5, but the
software iOS 6 is also getting its share of publicity and for valid reasons
too. The new mobile device operating system has been incorporated in iPhone,
iPad and iPod touch too and has many new features that make it stand out among
its peers.
Here are some of the features of iOS 6:
·
Passbook – It helps to maintain customer loyalty
cards, airline and other travel tickets, movie passes, and sporting event tickets.
It can also keep tabs on the user’s movement, meaning the right card will be
displayed once he enters at a certain location.
·
Shared Photo Streams – Specific albums can be
selected for sharing with other iPhoto users rather than streaming all photos
captured by iOS devices.
·
Improved Siri – Better voice recognition helps
you to search for movies, theaters, post Tweets, make status updates on
Facebook, or look up restaurants and make reservations.
·
Maps app – The Google Maps app has been done
away with as Apple has come up with its own tool. The new app includes
vector-based graphics, turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic data, and a
3D Flyover view for many cities.
Other improvements includes personalized messages
when calls are rejected, a Do Not Disturb features that can be used to make
calls and text messages silent that are not from people on a user-defined list,
AirPlay wireless streaming to the Apple TV, better accessibility features, and
much more.
The minimum requirement for iOS 6 to be installed
(apart from iPhone 5, where it is already installed) is an iPhone 3GS, a third
generation iPod touch, or an iPad 2 or third generation iPad. The upgrade is
free and can be done by going to the Software Update section in the Settings
tab.
