AT&T Inc.(NYSE:T) is
taking the curtains off of its slew of exclusive Windows products by including
ASUS Vivo Tab RT Windows 8 tablets and Samsung ATIV Smart PC to its holiday
lineup. The carrier did not disclose much about availability and pricing.
However, it has promised that the two tablets will be launched in time to be
included among this years holiday shopping season.
AT&T has released a
statement with details about the two devices. It said that it would be the sole
US-based carrier to sell these specific ASUS and Samsung products. That does
not indicate that people could not find them in big box retailers.
Both the ATIV Smart PC
and Vivo Tab RT will operate on AT&T’s 4G network. The gadgets are all
geared up to compete with the ruling iPad and probably Microsoft’s own Surface
device will be stealing sales from third party hardware makers.
Microsoft is supposed
to launch its Windows 8 platform and Surface RT tablet at an event in New York
on 25th October. Similar to other manufacturers of Windows 8
devices, Microsoft has not yet reveals pricing details. Steve Ballmer, CEO of
Microsoft had initially hinted at a price range between $300 and $800.
AT&T has also
declared that it will carry Samsung’s Android-based, 4G-enabled Galaxy camera.
This will be available in the upcoming weeks. However, keeping at par with its
other product declarations, there has been no word on pricing.
The VivoTab RT from
ASUS will come with a quad-core Tegra 3 processor, 4G LTE connectivity, 32 GB
internal memory and Windows RT, apart from features like 10.1 inch Super IPS
display and ASUS TruVivid technology offering a better viewing experience. On
the other hand, Samsung’s HD ATIV Smart PC will come with 11.6 inch screen,
dual core Intel Clover Trail processor, 64 GB internal memory and windows 8.
